YOU gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em. That's when you know a good deal has been done.

Peter Camm, Camm Cattle Company, and Barry Taylor, Emanate Legal shake hands after Taylor put together in record time a deal that saw Camm purchase Sir Graham McCamley’s Glenprairie Station, Marlborough, for an undisclosed sum prior to auction.

Peter Camm could not speak more highly of Barry Taylor’s legal nous and his unfaltering ability to seal the deal for Camm Cattle Company in record time.

The purchase of Glenprairie will help Camm Cattle Company realise their ambition to produce organic cattle.

Peter said the company will grow organic steers at Victoria Downs, Charters Towers, until 15-18 months of age or when they realise 360kg. They will then be transported to Glenprairie for finishing.

Peter said their ambition would be to have Glenprairie as a feedlot for cattle up to 200 days, which would allow them to turn off 1000 organic cattle a month within the next three years.

Cull cows and weaner heifers will be sent from Chudleigh Park – Camm Cattle Company’s Hughenden property – directly to Glenprairie, while weaner steers will go to Victoria Downs for 12 months, before finishing at Glenprairie.

Taylor’s exquisite deal was kept so under the radar that it wasn’t until the auction opened when potential buyers were told Glenprairie had already been sold prior to auction.

Throughout the deal, Barry was in constant contact with NAB head of Agribusiness for Northern Australia, David Brett, and North Queensland and Northern Territory Regional Area Manager, Geoff Howard.

Barry Taylor and Anthony Douglas, Emanate Legal, are known in the pastoral industry for sealing off big deals. It is turnaround deals such as the recent Glenprairie sale that highlight Taylor’s outstanding career and is the reason behind such a prolific client base.

Taylor has represented national sporting entities and News Limited in the long running and complex litigation surrounding the Super League case, which necessitated appearances and representation for the Federal Court, Full Federal Court, and High Court of Australia.

He has also represented major media corporations in defence of and restriction of exposure to defamation actions, human resources and intellectual property.

While Taylor has a long list of career highlights, what he is best known for in the pastoral industry is providing advice and strategy for the largest rural acquisitions in Australia, including Stanbroke Pastoral Company and Georgina Pastoral Company.

He has also represented graziers and rural landowners in claims for compensation arising out of mining leases.
